Get a Workout Making Music

August 13, 2015 By Krista Dalrymple

I found some awesome new ideas and information to share with you. In a seminar for music teachers just this week, I watched this short film about how music affects the brain.

Researchers have found, by using MRI and PET scans, that large portions of the entire brain show increased activity when a person listens to music.  When that same person begins to play a musical instrument, it looks like fireworks going off inside the brain. It’s actually a great workout for your brain!

This science just confirms what we already knew—making music is extremely good for you!

So, get your fingers and your brain warmed up—it’s going to be a great year!  I can’t wait to see you on August 23.  Hurry up and get here,

Mrs. Dalrymple

Welcome Back!

August 24, 2014 By Krista Dalrymple

I am so excited about this school year.  I just want to take a minute and welcome you all to my little space on the web. This website is new this year, and I plan to post pictures, videos, and updates on a regular basis.  Since many of you don’t have the privilege of hearing your student every day, I have been working to find new ways to keep parents and families informed of what’s happening in my studio.

Last year, as many of you remember, I tried a web-based service especially for music teachers. Some of us are still trying to recover from the frustration that caused us! I abandoned that in the middle of the year. Since I just happen to be married to a very talented web designer, I now have my own website that he built for me! I’m looking forward to using this great tool to keep in touch.

Things to note:

Now for just a few things you need to know as we start the year!  Make sure to visit my Policies page and my Lessons page to get familiar with the way things work here in the UCA Piano Department. If your student is returning, please take a quick look and note a couple of changes from last year. If you have not subscribed to my website, take a moment and subscribe now so you don’t miss communications from me.

Those of you who are returning will remember that my husband, Jon, took over the accounting for my studio in the middle of last year.  He will be sending invoices and statements to you by email around the 25th of each month.  There are several ways you can choose to make payments, and those are outlined on my Payments page.  Payments are due by the first of every month.  You will be receiving September’s invoice soon.  Thanks for your prompt payments.

Contact us:

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Jon or me.  We both check email regularly, so that’s a great way to communicate. Or you can contact us by phone.  Jon’s phone number is (509) 981-9260.  He will be happy to address any questions about your account.  My number is (509) 994-5244.  I do have a very full teaching schedule this year, so if I can’t answer, please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

We’re off!

This first week of school will be a fun and challenging time–we hit the ground running the very first week–getting to know each other and reconnecting after a summer away.  Thanks again for the awesome opportunity to teach your kids.  I look forward to getting to know each of them and cheering them on as they work hard to reach their goals.  It is my prayer that the relationships we make as we share the gift of music will bring us closer to God and bring glory to His Name.
